DAILY WRITING
Day 3
When the
weather is cold and dreary we tend to think it’s a ‘bad day’. We update our
Facebook statuses to ‘Why is it such bad weather’ and ‘My plans are ruined
because of the rain’. We long for the warm weather and complain because our
heaters cost too much to use.
It’s the same
with life. When we’re going through something tough and stressful, we tend to
think it’s a ‘bad’ thing. We complain, we ask God what on earth He is doing; we
forget all the great things in our lives and focus on the cold, dreary parts of
our lives.
But this
isn’t good for us. See, I have a bit of a problem with complaining. Whenever
something goes wrong I think it can’t be changed, that it’s permanent, and that
it’s not good enough. But, like the weather, our lives are always changing, and
very often it’s our attitude towards something that’s going to change it for
the better or, unfortunately, for the worse.
In 1 Kings
11:10-11 it says ‘Although He had forbidden Solomon to follow other gods,
Solomon did not keep The Lord’s command. So The Lord said to Solomon, ‘Since
this is your attitude and you have not kept my covenant and my decrees, which I
commanded you, I will most certainly tear the kingdom away from you and give it
to one of your subordinates.’’
How often do
you think of your attitude? I hadn’t realised I had an attitude problem until
someone pointed it out to me. Now I think before I say things, and I try to
look on the bright side of things more often. I may have felt this person was
judging me at the time, but now I can see that it’s a good thing they were
honest enough to show me where I was going wrong.
Romans 3:10 reminds
us that ‘There is no one righteous, not even one’.
It’s okay to
ask someone to point out where you may be going wrong, and for you to admit to
your flaws. After all, we’re only human. Righteous pretty much means perfect,
flawless. We’re all sinners, which means that none of us are perfect. None of
us are righteous.
When your
attitude changes for the better, everything seems so much easier to handle,
trust me. I was struggling with a particular thing for ages, and then I simply
gave it all up to God, and He helped me to change my attitude. I learned that
it wasn’t other people doing everything the wrong way, it was my heart that was
turned the wrong way. I saw that there was no problem, except that I was making
a big deal out of something so small, and I had a bad attitude towards some
people.
To conclude
what I’m saying, 1 Timothy 5:5 says ‘The widow who is really in need and left
all alone puts her hope in God and continues night and day to pray and to ask
God for help.’
